This activity affords members an opportunity for a low impact, casually paced hike through some of the many beautiful and topographically diverse areas in the Grand Traverse area. We love to stop and smell the flowers, look at the foliage and observe the local fauna. Walks are usually on the second Saturday of the month at 11:00 a.m., April thru November weather-permitting. The details for each are in each month's Newsletter. From January through March, we switch to Cross Country Skiis and/or Snowshoes.

Walks last between one and two hours and are typically less than two miles in length. Lunch following the walk has become an enjoyable feature.

If anyone has suggestions for a walk please let me know.

Please e-mail or phone me so I can make a list of those interested. If at the last minute you find you can join us please do.

2008 Upcoming Walks

April 12th

11:00 a.m.

Old Mission Point Park - cancelled due to weather.
May 17th

11:00 a.m.

Pyramid Point Hiking Trail. This hike is a week "later" than normal because of the Club outing at Ranch Rudolph on May 10.
The Sleeping Bear National Shoreline is truly one of the jewels of our area and the Pyramid Point area is particularly interesting. The trail loop is 2.7 miles long and takes you through three distinct environments: open meadow, beech-maple forest and high bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan. The trail does have several steep hills, but the view from the top will prove worth the effort. A post-hike lunch in Glen Arbor for those interested will be an option. Take M-22 between Leland and Glen Arbor and turn north on Port Oneida Road. Follow the signs to the parking area at the trailhead. On the way, please note the old homesteads preserved as part of the Shoreline. Contact Marlowe Bonner at 231-932-0943 or mbmarbon@aol.com if you plan to attend.
