November 15 - “Newcomers Auction”. The November program will be both a Silent and Regular Auction. As in previous years, our auction comes just before the holiday season swings into full throttle and is a great opportunity to find something unique. Members are asked to donate items for the auction. Homemade items are always a big hit – be it crafts, quilting or homemade goodies like cookies or jams. Also very popular are collectables and/or antiques and children’s video’s/books. Other items from past auctions included tickets to concerts, the symphony and Interlochen, gift baskets of local Michigan products, wine, cheese spreads/selections, kitchen or bathroom items. Other popular offering are dinners at members homes and cooking and craft lessons. We always have a good turnout and an evening of fun. Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Location: Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave., Traverse City.

December 16 - "2005 Christmas Dinner Dance".  The Annual Holiday Dinner Dance takes place December 16, at the Waterfront Inn Conference Center, 2061 US 31 North, T.C. The next scheduled Newcomers monthly program will be on Tuesday, February 28th , 2006 at 7:00 pm at the Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave. The program will be “Music and Song” with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra and the Cherry Capital Chorus

The TSO host will be Fred Zwemer who has been a past TSO President and a Newcomer as well. Currently Fred is on the board of the TSO and the Music House Museum, Creator of the model of Traverse City at the Music House Museum, and is involved in many things here in T.C.  He understands what it's like to arrive into T.C. and hunt for "things to do."

The TSO will be there with a Quartet called "A fifth Below".  They will play a couple of classical selections then into some Duke Ellington or some very popular scores.  These are really great musicians of the TSO and to verify they will be transposing "on the fly."  The TSO is looking for new members who appreciate classical music and want to be there in the front seat!

Next will be Al Bonney, the Director of the Cherry Capital Chorus who possesses a great musical background.  The Chorus consists of 40 +/- men and they sing Barbershop!  And do these guys have fun.  Music reading is NOT a requirement.  Just be a male and have a willingness to come to rehearsals.  Al says he can teach ANYONE to sing and his titled presentation is "You Too Can Sing Too!"  Promises to be fun for everyone and I don't think you'll be disappointed. The Chorus is also looking for new members!  No tryouts!  No auditions!  Just show up!

Two "Gold Section" (premiere) tickets to the March 4th, TSO concert will be given away as door prizes, as well as two tickets (separate drawing) to the Cherry Capital Chorus concert on June 3rd.

Just for your additional information, the TSO is having a "Luncheon with the Maestro" on Feb. 16 at the Hanna restaurant on Front and Cass starting at 11:30 a.m.  Kevin Rhodes' presentation will be everything you wanted to know about "The Romance of Tchaikovsky and Conducting Ballet," but were afraid to ask!  He really gets the audience involved.  It will be informative and fun.  Reservations are required and tickets are $18.00 for TSOA members and $20.00 for non-members.  Lunch included and your choice of Hanna's menu.  Cash bar if wanted. Seating is limited so reserve early! Contact Bill Burke at 932-9335 or Martha Griggs at 409-2891 for more information about the luncheon.

Two "Gold Section" (premiere) tickets to the March 4 or 5, TSO concert will be given away as door prizes, as well as two tickets (separate drawing) to the Cherry Capital Chorus concert in June.

March 28 - "Pet Safe Rescue Alliance". Everyone is well aware of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, but few of us, thankfully, will ever have first hand experience dealing with that reality. Here is your opportunity to see and hear what it was like from someone who has. Our guest speaker tonight will be Mr. Michael Dickinson, co-founder of Pet Safe Rescue Alliance of Traverse City, who, along with volunteers, returned from devastated Louisiana with 91 homeless dogs and cats. Michael will recount his experience in retrieving and transporting these animals to Traverse City, caring for them upon their arrival and ultimately placing them in new homes in and around our community. This promises to be an evening no one will forget. Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Location: Traverse Area District Library, 610 Woodmere Ave., Traverse City.
