The Newcomers Club of
Grand Traverse is a social and civic organization whose mission is to
extend a welcoming hand to residents of the Grand
Traverse area. Monthly programs and activity groups provide
opportunities to meet and socialize with other newly-relocated people sharing
common interests. The Newcomers Club of Grand Traverse is also a volunteer
source for local non-profit agencies.
Our
membership comes from all over the USA. The majority moved here from within
Michigan and from the neighboring states of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.
However, we also have a number of families from other areas of the USA including
Florida and California. Most of our members are newly relocated, but there
are a number of families who continue to participate in club activities long
after joining.
The typical family
has frequently visited the Grand Traverse Area over the years, and when family
and career circumstances permitted, relocated permanently. We also see a number
of families returning to their roots--especially younger ones wanting to raise
their families here.
If you've lived in
the Grand Traverse Area for a short time, or have resided here for many years,
you are always welcome to join the Newcomers Club. General Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month (September
through May) at 7:00 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other
newcomers to our region. Be sure to check our monthly newsletter for meeting
locations. Check the menu on the left for
more information about membership in the Newcomers Club, its activities and
operations.
If
you are relatively new to the area or know someone recently relocated call or
call Sharon Finch, 947-8403, to have a welcome package delivered. See
Welcome Service for more information on that
service.
