EXERCISE

Need to work off some of the calories consumed during one (or more) of our Culinary activities? Or maybe you just want to get outside and enjoy some of the beautiful scenery the Grand Traverse area has to offer? Either way, we have some groups that are sure to appeal to the nature-lover in you.

Exercise Groups include:

  • Biking:  This group is lead by Rose Carmen brcarman@live.com, Cathy Bonenberger cathybonen@gmail.com, and Ira Wasserman ira_wasserman@hotmail.com.

  • Golf:  This group plays every Monday morning during the warm-weather months at different courses around the Grand Traverse area. Contact Ralph Brickman at brickmanbus@yahoo.com.

  • Grand Traverse Hiking Club:  Some of you might be looking for more opportunities to get outdoors and explore our area on foot, and the Grand Traverse Hiking Club can help you find some more people and activities to do just that. The GTHC is a chapter of the North Country Trail Association (NCTA). The website is http://www.northcountrytrail.org/gtr/. I encourage you to visit the website to see what it's all about, and to download the latest copy of the newsletter.  Monthly meetings are usually held from September through May, on the third Tuesday night of the month in Conference Room A&B of the Munson Community Health Center. Numerous outings and events are also scheduled throughout the year. This fall there has been at least one day hike scheduled every weekend, and they have been quite popular. The next newsletter will be available in early December, and it should have all the winter outings and events posted. Hope to see you on the trail!  For more information, contact Lois Goldstein or John Heiam (president of the GTHC) at 938-9655.

  • Paddling:  Morning paddles - on inland lakes and gentle rivers - meet at 9:45 (or earlier) to be on water by 10:00 AM.  New to the sport?  Need help with boat unloading? We especially encourage beginners, but all are welcome to join. PDF's required. We'll paddle for about 1.5 to 2 hrs. and then go out to lunch. These are beginner paddles, so we will cancel if bad weather is a possibility. Be sure to call us to sign up so we can send directions or notify you in case of cancellation. For more information, contact Jody Bennett or Bob Luoma at bennettjj@charter.net or 932-9249.

  • Snowshoeing/XC Skiing:  This group is looking for a new leader.  Contact Pat Haber at pathaber@gmail.com or 228-4245.

  • Walk in the Woods:  The group gets together the second Saturday of each month for a 'walk in the woods.'  Contact Bob or Brenda Knaack at knacck222@gmail.com.
