As a member of the Walk in the Woods activity group, expect moderate exercise that allows breathing room for good conversation and appreciation of scenic views, followed by good eats for lunch at top establishments near trail-heads. Scroll down for information about upcoming events.
NEXT WALK IN THE WOODS: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6. Our first hike of 2017 is on the Lost Lake Pathway near Interlochen. This beautiful trail system includes views of Lake Dubonnet and crosses the weir at the headwaters of the Platte River. We’ll hike the first two loops—about 3 miles with only one fairly arduous climb, like one or two flights of stairs. An outer loop adds another 3 miles and a view of tiny Lost Lake, but you’ll be late for lunch. We’ll send a sign-up email in April with lunch plans. Directions: from the Interlochen stoplight travel west on US 31 1.5 miles and turn north onto Gonder Rd. (at west end of golf course.) Parking lot will be on the left 0.8 miles from US 31. About 25 minutes travel time from downtown Traverse City.
