Northern Michigan summer are short, but absolutely glorious! With so many wonderful gardens and gardening resources in our area, there is never a lack of beautiful and inspiring activities for our club to attend. Our guiding principle is to stimulate the love and knowledge of all aspects of gardening through sound horticulture practices, and make new friends who share our interests.
The Garden Club typically meets monthly from April through September. Outings include nursery tours, where we are tempted by irresistible plants and delicious colors; lectures by horticultural experts on topics such as garden design, growing tips, special purpose gardens, and native species that thrive in our region; and field trips to visit the many garden attractions of Northern Michigan. Activities include lunch or snacks.
While we will continue old favorites such as a tour of the developing Botanic Garden and Historic Barns Park, the Friendly Garden Club walk, and a visit to the Sixth Street Secret Garden, there are many new activities planned, including a plant exchange, creative workshops, an all-day field trip to Mackinac Island, and perhaps even a formal Garden Party. We welcome suggestions and offerings from our many talented Newcomer members.
