Bike Ride #1

About this event

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED

Overview:  Out and back ride of about 2 hours on the Leelanau TART trail, starting at Sutton Park (124 S Shore Dr, Suttons Bay, MI  49682 - 1/4 mile south of the Village of Suttons Bay).  Lunch after the ride near parking.

Start Point and Time:  Meet at the dirt parking lot on Beach St. which is between M22 and the Park at 9:30 am on May 16th.  Be ready to ride at 9:45am.

The Ride:  We will organize in 2 groups (advanced [fast] and beginner/intermediate) at the parking area.  Both groups will cross M22 together and we will ride south along the wide shoulder of M22 for about 200 yards and then turn right onto Richter Rd.  We'll ride 300 yards and turn right on Eckerle Rd and then left (south) onto the TART trail after another 1/4 mile.  There is little traffic on both Richter and Eckerle Roads.  Both groups will ride south for about an hour and then turn around and head back towards Suttons Bay.  Note:  Hop Lot is between where we will cross M22 and Richter Rd.

Lunch:  Hop Lot Brewing opens at Noon on Fridays.  The goal is for everyone to arrive there at Noon.  Their menu can be found at (www.hoplotbrewing.com/menu/).  Hop Lot Brewing is at 658 S W Bay Shore Dr., Suttons Bay 49682 (231-866-4445).

Notes:

1.  All riders must wear a bike helmet in order to participate.

2.  Riding on the TART:

     - Ride on the right side of the trail

     - If riding 2 abreast, be mindful of oncoming riders and move to the right side of the trail in plenty of time  (Also – No riding 3 abreast on the TART Trail – it takes too long for all 3 riders to get out of the way of oncoming riders).

     - If you are passing other bikes or walkers/runners, announce yourself with either a bell ring, or yelling "Passing on the left"

     - If passing someone with a dog, announce and give them plenty of time to wrangle their dog to clear the way

3.  Safety:

     - Recommend a flashing tail light since we will be riding on roads for about a 1/2 mile

     - I also recommend a side mirror
